Best San Diego Air Travel Tips
San Diego air travel can be quite a headache if not planned properly. Will air travel be how you get to San Diego? You may know that air travel is not the easiest method of transportation by today's standards... But if planned properly, it can really be quite an enjoyable experience. Okay, I know you are time pressed, so lets get to the good stuff. Below are things I believe are important to keep in mind when planning your San Diego air travel experience.
1. Discount Flights and Last Minute AirfareThe best advice I can give you here is plan ahead of time. Don't wait until the last minute! On the other hand, if your plans change and you need to fly out sooner than planned, knowing where to find a good deal can save you a lot of money. You may be able to find good deals in your local newspaper, but this can be quite tedious. You can also find great deals on discount flights and last minute airfares on the net. Spend some time comparing merchants... This will ensure you get the most bang for your buck.
2. Travel Mid-Week and Off-Season You can avoid paying the full retail price if you choose to travel mid-week or off-season. If you stop to think about it, this is much better anyways. There are fewer lines to wait in, and service is much faster. If your San Diego air travel plans are around the holidays, then try flying out mid-week if at all possible.
3. Get Insured!Times have changed and so has the airline industry. Many airline companies today are struggling to stay afloat and out of bankruptcy. It's comforting to know that you are covered in case you lose your luggage. Both my father and brother have lost their luggage in the past. It really is a common thing. So protect yourself! If your left stranded in "tim-buck-too" because of a canceled ticket, your insurance should get you here without a problem. You may also want to check with your credit card company before buying insurance. They may already have coverage for you! Just be sure to make the ticket purchase with that credit card.
4. Your MoneyWhen traveling by air I usually carry 2 credit cards, a debit card, and some cash on hand. I also like informing myself before arriving at my destination on local ATM's and what kind of fees they charge. When traveling by air, unforeseen emergencies may come up. The cash may come in handy for food, taxi, phone calls, etc. Always expect the best, but keep in mind that emergencies do come up during air travel.
5. Be Healthy and SafeAlways check with your medical insurance to see if you are covered in San Diego. If you're not insured, you may want to consider getting traveler medical insurance. You may also want to pack medicine in case you get ill during your San Diego air travel experience. If you need prescription drugs, make sure they are labeled and in the container they were prescribed. There is always the possibility that airport security may not let you take them on-board. Once in San Diego, always use common sense. We may be America's Finest City, but that doesn't make us immune to crime. Use your best judgment when out on the town, but do enjoy all that this great city has to offer.
