About Our Site And Memorable San Diego Story
About Our Site
Our site did not just spring up over night. There is a bit of background history to it.
I came to the United States when I was only 4-yrs old. My dad, a preacher, was invited by Oregon's State Senator to come live and preach here in the U.S. I was born in Guatemala, but when asked where I am from, my answer is, "San Diego".
Even though I am a naturalized citizen, and have only lived in San Diego for 10 years, I mostly consider myself a San Diegan. This is my beloved city, where my wife and I met, and where my son was born.
I came to San Diego when I was 14 years old. I attended Chula Vista High School due to their excellent reputation in the arts. At the time I was fixed on going to college to study animation.
In my Junior year I decided I was going to study engineering instead. I was scared of becoming a starving artist, so I sold out my passion (as so many of us do).
Upon graduating high school, Cal Poly State University accepted me into their undergraduate engineering program. These were exciting times for me. I really didn't know what to expect out of life at this point.
Before leaving for college I took it upon myself to party as much as possible. A few weeks before leaving for college, I went out with some friends to a club in Tijuana, Mexico. That was the night I met Cynthia, the woman who would become the mother of my child.
Before I left for college, we agreed to stay in touch. We both thought nothing serious would come out of our relationship.
Boy were we wrong.
We dated long distance for about three years before we couldn't take the separation no more, and so we finally got married.
She moved up north to San Luis Obispo with me another 2 years until I finished school. This was especially tough on her because she had to leave everything behind in San Diego.
Upon graduating from school I took a job at Solar Turbines along San Diego's Port. This is near the airport. I still work here as a Design Engineer.
Within a few months of finishing school, Cynthia became pregnant. On July 1, 2006 she gave birth to Alexander Gabriel Rivera at Keiser Permanente Hospital in Mission Valley.
Wow, is he growing fast!
Both my wife and I live in Chula Vista with our 6-month old son. We bought a condo earlier this year in the Otay Ranch area, and are thinking of purchasing our second home very soon within this area. This is an excellent area to live in with plenty of parks and shops.
Why We Built Our Site
San Diego has given the both of us everything. My love for San Diego grows every year as I experience new things.
I created this website out of passion. There aren't enough sites on the net that really over deliver good quality content about San Diego, so I took this task upon myself. My wife and I have had great experiences here, and would like to share these with anyone planning to visit San Diego.
How We Built Our Site
Getting married while in college put a lot of financial stress on both my wife and I. My studies took up a large chunk of my time, and so I could not work while in college (an engineering degree really isn't all that easy).
This put a lot of pressure on me to look for other ways to make extra money part-time. That summer while on my internship a co-worker of mine introduced me to Direct Selling company that would allow me to be in business for myself. I spent a little over 2 years learning a few things about myself and what I really wanted out of life.
That business (never really took off) answered a lot of questions for me about life. This got me in pursuit of something I could do in my spare time, but the I knew, loved, and was passionate about.
One day while on my lunch break at work as I searched the web for "It", I stumbled upon an article about a man in the Direct Selling line of business that had failed at just about every business he had attempted. Everything changed though when he decided to go live on-line with a website powered by Site Build It!
As I investigated further what this Site Build It! deal was all about, I began to see crystal clear how I could build a site around my passion. I knew I was passionate about San Diego, more than my Direct Selling business. I decided to shift gears, and give it a shot since they claimed to have a 100% satisfaction guaranteed policy.

Since starting this site in September of 2006, I have never had more fun. I must admit, it is a lot of work, but it seems more like play than work because I am truly doing something I enjoy. Also, I came into this thing knowing nothing about site building. Site Build It! really over delivers with both the tools and resources. They teach you everything you need to know.
This site is defiantly my pet project, and I am really enjoying the journey.
If you are planning or thinking of visiting San Diego, please give our site a visit. We are confident our resources will provide you with absolutely everything you are looking for.
